Carpentras, a town of Art and History, the former Capital of the Comtat Venaissin, situated at the heart of several prestigious natural sites, such as le Mont Ventoux, les Gorges de la Nesque, le Plateau de Sault…. The town's development began in the 16th Century with the establishment of the residence of Pope Clément V. At the same time, the Jews found refuge there after their expulsion from the kingdom. Several monuments bear witness: The’Hôtel Dieu (17th Century), the Saint Siffrein Cathedral and its treasure, la Chapel of the College of Jesuits and the Synagogue of the 14th and 19th Centuries, the oldest in France.
To the south of Carpentras, Pernes les Fontaines boasts an architectural heritage of 40 fountains of which 4 are classified.
From July until mid-August, you can admire the swathes of lavender, emblem of Provence sweeping across the Plateau de Sault.
